Installing an Electric Vehicle Charger at Home

At Ballarat Solar Group we recently completed our largest Enphase battery installation to date.

The installation was paired with an electric vehicle charger and over 40 high-performance solar panels.

Electric vehicle chargers installed at home offer faster charging speeds, 7kW (single-phase for homeowners) or 22kW (three-phase for businesses) and lower electricity costs by utilising off-peak rates or solar energy.

Charging at home is generally cheaper compared to public chargers, especially when utilising off-peak tariffs.

With a smart home charger and solar panels on your roof, you can charge your car for free using excess solar energy, while also helping to preserve your battery life compared to constant high-speed charging like at public chargers.

New Solar Installation for Ballarat Community Health

Ballarat Solar Group’s in-house team recently completed a large solar installation at Ballarat Community Health.

With a business-to-business focus on this solar installation project, over 85% of the content was locally sourced.

System details included:

50kW Sungrow Inverter
145 x Suntech 440W solar panels (64.24kW total)
Mounted on Schletter racking

This solar installation project was collaborated on by Ballarat Solar Group, Ballarat Community Health and AusNet, marking the third time we have collaborated on a project together.

The Hidden Cost of the “Cheap” Option

Thanks to generous government incentives, it’s tempting to grab a low-cost, oversized battery. But ask yourself one crucial question: Can you afford to replace it out of pocket? Because if the installer disappears, the importer folds, and the hardware fails, you could be left with a $20,000 paperweight—and another $30,000 bill to make things right.

And that dead battery? You’ll pay thousands just to dispose of it. Multiply that by the number of homeowners making the same mistake, and billions of dollars in subsidised hardware could soon become landfill.

The client is one of Ballarat’s newest industrial sites and were looking to use clean and efficient energy.

Residential solar and battery installation

Ballarat Solar Group specialise in the design and installation of grid connected solar and battery storage systems and this project in Ballarat was no different.

Built for performance and peace of mind at a residential property, we added a 16kWh Sigenergy battery and 6kW Energy Controller in a secure location in the garage, protected from the elements!

On the roof of the property we installed 20x440W Suntech panels, meaning reliable power from sunrise to sunset for our client.

This Central Ballarat Enphase Solar & Battery project features 13.27KW DC / 12.862 KW AC, and 15KWH of Enphase IQ Battery 5P with Trina solar panels. This system is capable of providing 27.862KW Continuous Operating Power in both Grid & Back-up Modes.

This projects demonstrates the expandable and versatile nature of an Enphase Solar & Battery system. Started in late 2021 with 6.63KW DC / 6.222KW AC compromising 17 x Enphase IQ7A microinverters paired with Trina 390W solar panels. Why servicing your rooftop solar is important

☀️ WHY SERVICING YOUR ROOFTOP SOLAR IS ESSENTIAL ☀️

Hot and cold temperatures, wind, rain and other extreme weather events can cause damage and wear to solar PV installations. Regular servicing mitigates this risk, ensuring they are working safely and efficiently.

One of the more serious risks of poorly maintained systems is the potential for fire caused by a faulty DC isolator connected to the solar installation, usually on the roof. Changes in their design since 2018, and regular servicing are reducing this risk.

The best way to identify faults and ensure your system is operating to its full capability while avoiding risks such as house fires is regular servicing by a licensed electrician, especially for systems installed before 2018.

Over 2022-2023, there were more than 50 rooftop house fires on systems that had never been serviced. Had these systems been serviced, these fires would have been prevented. (Source: Energy Safe Victoria – Show your Solar Some Love Safety Campaign)
